A Quick Lesson In Speed Reading Techniques

By Emily Diaz

Most people find themselves hesitant to discover all about speed reading techniques. Some of the better speed reading applications will often give you a free trial period so you can decide if you like it. Bear in mind that this is nothing but gaining new skills, changing habits in your mind, and then applying yourself to learn how to do it. You'll need to have a consistent effort in the beginning because that's how you learn best, and then in time it needs to become second nature to you.

Bear in mind that this is nothing but gaining new skills, changing habits in your mind, and then applying yourself to learn how to do it. The biggest problem for most people is they tend to put things off, and that's why you need to just made the decision and go for it.

You can actually start training your self to do speed reading right after you read this article. One method that has been around for many years is using the pacing method because there are different names for it, and all you're doing is using a finger to set a pace. Move your finger along as you read, and you'll need to start out a little slowly, and you'll find a point that is challenging because it needs to be faster than you normally read. This is a perfect approach to use since it's entirely up to you as to how fast you progress. The more you do this, you'll discover that you will almost automatically avoid being distracted.

Take a preliminary or cursory overview of any written material that you're about to read, and there are reasons for doing this. When you are looking over what you want to read, you can do this slower or faster. What you'll be doing is creating mental hooks that other information will associate with. This is not some sort of mandatory exercise, however it will really help you to read faster and learn more.

Only by being consistent with your practice can you hope to improve your abilities. Use your book, course or software regularly until it starts to sink in. Find a certain amount of time each day to practice your speed reading. And don't buy something and not use it - this happens more often than you may know. It's not enough to buy or download a course or software program; you must really use it! But ultimately you'll do what it is you do, and if you procrastinate then work on getting that out of your life for good. But your mind will benefit far more and more powerfully when you train it properly. And that's all this really amounts to - training your brain to operate in a new way.

Getting into the habit of applying yourself to speed reading learning and techniques is your goal. But you want to make those exercises a natural part of your everyday thinking and reading. That can happen but you have to be dedicated to changing your reading habits.
