If you do not take breaks, stress will build up, and the tensions will keep you from developing a healthy relationship with your children. Don't smoke in a home where your kids are living. Even better, quit smoking. Secondhand smoke is equally as harmful as actually smoking. Children exposed to second-hand smoke are at risk of developing respiratory diseases like bronchitis, asthma, and even pneumonia.

Every parent needs an occasional break from their children. Get a trusted family member or friend to care for you kids so you can enjoy your time without having to worry about them. Parents that do not get personal or adult time away from children have higher levels of stress that magnify throughout the home.

Cucumbers, carrots or sour pickles can be put into a mesh teether and given to a baby who is having a painful time when cutting their teeth. Your child will enjoy the flavor of these all-natural teethers. The more they chew, the more progress they make and the better they inevitably feel.

If you want to keep toddlers and younger kids from getting bored and cranky on long car trips, make frequent rest stops. Although you might prefer to arrive at your destination as soon as possible, your children will not be as fussy if you take your time. Keep your eyes peeled for restaurants that have playgrounds, parks, and nice open fields where your kids can take a break and burn off a little-unneeded energy.

To keep your child from becoming bored with his or her toys, put some away periodically or shift some to the bottom of his or her toy box. Except for a few select items, small kids often become uninterested in individual toys quickly. Rotation keeps the novelty and newness of your child's toys alive for a while, so you don't feel the need to purchase new ones.

It will be helpful for new stepparents to understand that it will probably be quite a while before your stepchild accepts you into the family. Many kids whose parents separated experience serious resentment. Go slowly and don't force anything. With time, you can forge a relationship together.

Medications for young children will go down a lot easier if a sweet substance added. Orange juice cuts the taste of the medicine quite nicely, but you can just add some sugar to it as an alternative. Eye drops can be a challenge. Have the child close the eye and put the drops in the corner of the eye or on the eyelid. As soon as the child opens the eye, the medicine will drop right into the eye.

These sorts of routines let you partition your day into specific times, including time for meals, time for homework, and time for bed. These lets the child know when to do what. A good routine will result in a well-mannered child, so make this a priority.
