As parents expect a new baby, one of their tasks is to determine an appropriate name. One of the most famous inquiries by parents is what are the most popular baby names in the USA for this year? Some want to avoid names that are being overused while others want to select something that will become more common.

Cool Hipsters - Although they known for their avoidance of the mainstream and embracing individuality, the popularity of these options continues to grow. These trendy and artsy monikers help your child to find acceptance in the cool crowd. Choices include Otis and Atticus for boys while girls may be named Piper or Alice.

Female Child, Male Name - While the trend is not new, it is enjoying a growing popularity. Perhaps it has to do with what is happening with the children of celebrities that reported on the internet. Some of the possibilities include Arlo, Maxwell, Hunter Dylan and Riley.

The Spice Cabinet - Reading birth announcements in some cities is like reading bottles from your spice cabinet. Flowers and trees are out, but herbs are. Babies bay, Anise, and Lavender may be in play groups with Poppy, Saffron, and Juniper.

Virtuous Boys - Character traits have long been used to girls, giving options such as Hope, Faith, and Grace. This year, the trend is moving to the boys. Ernest and Justice may be found playing with Righteous and Valor in the school playground in just a few years as the child reaches the age to start his education.

Old fashioned girls - Many little girls are receiving old fashioned tags for a name. While Ruby and Anna have enjoyed many years of popularity, the adventuresome are looking at genealogy as a source for a name for the little girl. Expect to hear Dorothy, Edith, Ivy, Joy and Sylvia more than in past years.

Pope - The People's Pope, Francis, is enjoying a lot of popularity after his recent election. His declaration concerning breastfeeding in church along with the decision to baptize children of parents who were not married in the Church make him even more loved in parent groups. To celebrate, the new Pope there are likely to be a heavy use of Frank and Francis with boys.

Add Ys - Letters of the latter part of the alphabet are being used more than ever. A few years ago, it became common to begin a name with the letter Z, giving us Zander. Now the trend is to add one or more Ys to an otherwise common name. Rylee, Adin, and Layla are just a few.

Pop Culture - The highly successful Game of Thrones has also lent its character names to the nursery. This movie has popularized the use of Bran, Khaleesi, Theron and Tyrion. Other highly ranked television shows, movies, and books also contribute to the pool

Kings and Queens - Even in the United States, the birth of a new prince restores the focus on English Royalty. The relatively strong monikers from the Queen's family are being used this year. Boys may named after Prince George, but the rest of the males in his family are also desirable. For girls, the options include Victoria, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anne, and Diana.
