What To Expect From Foster Care WA

By Brenda Robinson

Fostering kids is not always easy. There is a lot that you have to take into consideration. This begins with what you need to be able to tell the children who you are fostering along with realizing the fact that you are not in this for the money. There are people who look into foster care WA because of what they are offered.

There are many positive aspects that kids can get out of this time. Foster parents have learned to create a sense of warmth over the years. This is what a child needs who has been exposed to dysfunctional environment. There are countless kids who are waiting for a home. Social workers are tempted to place the child anywhere.

Some relatives end up fostering a child. It is not always plain sailing because there are questions that the youngster has. They want to know why they were taken from their parents. They may want to go back home, even if it was a dysfunctional home environment. It can be difficult dealing with a situation like this.

Social workers will check up on the family and the home to make sure that they are completely satisfied. Everything should be clean and hygienic. If there is anything that seems to be out of place, a social worker will look into this. There could be a high level of noise, a lot of empty wine bottles or a kitchen that hasn't been cleaned in a few days.

Kids are best at drawing or painting. This can come from art therapy. But the foster parent should also encourage them to be artistic in this way. There is a lot that they can get out of the process, and they won't bottle up their feelings as much. It will also encourage them to get their feelings out in a non-verbal way instead of being more abusive about this.

It is not easy to explain to the children why they have been moved to these types of circumstances. This forms part of the training. Some kids will be told that their parent is sick or hurt. They may be told that their home is not safe or that they are not able to stay there because they are not being looked after in the right way.

It is not easy for them to take this in at first. They may be emotional about this or respond in other ways. Sometimes, counseling is necessary. The foster parent needs to spend time with the child, even though they may have trouble coping with these outbursts. They should encourage them to do something with their hands. This is often the best type of therapy.

Although they realize that their parents have not been behaving as they should, they will still worship them just like any young children do. Foster parents should encourage the child to do art therapy, drawing pictures of themselves and their present situation. This is great therapy. It keeps them in the present moment and helps them to eliminate any anxiety.
